Steven Mendelsohn, M.D., - Chairman of the Medical Quality Improvement Board (full Curriculum Vitae)
Dr. Mendelsohn has been Board Certified by the American Board of Radiology since 1984.  He was enrolled in the Accelerated Honors Program in Medical Education at Pennsylvania State University and Jefferson Medical College. Graduation Summa Cum Laude from Pennsylvania State University, he received his MD degree from Jefferson Medical College in 1979, receiving honors in the areas of Family Medicine, Surgery, Neuroanatomy, Neuorophysiology, Orthopedic Surgery, Biostatistics, and Psychiatry.

Dr. Mendelsohn interned at the University of Michigan - Department of Surgery and the University of Illinois - Department of Pathology, and performed his residency training in radiology at North Shore University Hospital - Cornell Medical Center from 1980 until 1983.

Sam Fager, MD, JD, MBA - Consultant
Samuel Fager, M.D., J.D., M.B.A., is a former Surveyor with the Joint Commission.  He graduated with an undergraduate degree in English from Princeton University and received his medical degree from Drexel University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha. He then completed his residency training at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and at Columbia- Presbyterian Medical Center in New York.  As a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar in the joint program at Stanford University and the University of California at San Francisco, he studied adolescent medicine and ambulatory care administration.  In addition, he received a Master of Business Administration in Health Care Management at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1986 and graduated from Georgetown University Law School in 1997.

Prior to joining the Joint Commission, Dr. Fager was the Director of Student Health and Counseling Services at the University of Pennsylvania and an Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania’s Medical School.  Subsequently, he was the Director of Pediatric Ambulatory Care, Director of Adolescent Medicine, and Director of Student Health at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center and an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Internal Medicine at Cornell Medical College.  After becoming a surveyor, he was a Medical Director of Aetna in Hartford, Connecticut and a faculty member at the Yale University Medical School.  He is a member of the staff of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and is also the author of numerous scientific articles in infections disease and health care administration.

Dr. Fager was a Joint Commission surveyor from 1986 through 2007.  He is trained under the Accreditation Manual for Health Care Networks, the Accreditation Manual for Hospitals, and the Accreditation Manual for Ambulatory Health Care.  Dr. Fager has taught for the Joint Commission’s Department of Educational Programs since 1987.  He was the team leader for the Joint Commission’s external evaluation of the Peace Corps Volunteer Health Services from 1995 to 1997, and was one of the authors of the subsequent report to Congress. 

Robert Wells - Vice-President, Teleradiology Services
Mr. Wells is responsible for all Executive management of Merge Teleradiology Services.  Prior to joining Merge in 2007, he was Senior Vice-President of the Per-Se Technologies Resource and Access Management technologies, where he was responsible for running the operations and managing the P&L for the Resource and Access Management solutions.  Prior to that,  he was employed by McKesson as Vice-President of Marketing, and Vice-President of Product Management for the Imaging Solutions Group.  At IMNET Systems, he was Vice-President, Product Marketing, and Healthcare Product Manager. Mr. Wells earned a B.B.A. degree from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business.
